AfterGlow’s Photoluminescent EXIT Signs (Fire Signs) and IBC 2009, IFC 2009 and NFPA 101

AfterGlow, LLC’s products, including photoluminescent EXIT signs, meet the latest building and fire code requirements. Specifically, AfterGlow’s photoluminescent EXIT signs are intended for installation and use as required by building and fire safety codes such as the Life Safety Code, NFPA 101; the Building Construction and Safety Code, NFPA 5000, and the International Building Code sponsored by the International Code Council. Per the IBC, testing and certification in accordance with UL 924 is required for fire signs for each emergency exit.

Why UL 924 Photoluminescent Fire Exit Signs

UL 924 applies to fire EXIT signs of all types including photoluminescent fire signs used as emergency exit signs. According to the US Department of Energy, photoluminescent EXIT signs are the MOST energy efficient EXIT signs available: “In locations with proper charging sources, photoluminescent EXIT signs can have an unlimited service life.” They reduce Green House Gas impact since no electricity is needed, do not use radioactive materials or require bulb replacement or monthly/annual testing or maintenance. Properly selected and installed, they last for years and work even if damaged.

Rich Martin, on Photoluminescent Exit Signs vs. Traditional Exit Signs:

Rich Martin, AfterGlow, LLC’s President and CEO stated, "We strongly believe that AfterGlow, LLC’s new AfterGlow® brand, UL 924 compliant, high performance, photoluminescent EXIT signs are the right product at the right time. Photoluminescent products can be used to retrofit existing buildings, are ideal for historical preservation, and can be used to significantly reduce the energy budget and electrical infrastructure for new construction. Installation costs are very low, they require fewer building materials to make, are maintenance free, and consume ZERO energy because they are charged by ambient light.

Photoluminescent products are effective and, in many emergency situations, superior to the alternatives. Photoluminescent products continue working long after emergency generators typically stop running and the luminance of photoluminescent products far exceeds that of many LED products. Photoluminescent EXIT signs reduce Green House Gas impact since no electricity is needed and they do not require bulb replacement. Additionally no monthly/annual testing or maintenance is required. When properly selected and installed, they last for years and work even if damaged."

Franky Howard, Jones County Manager, On AfterGlow Exit Signs:

Franky Howard, Jones County Manager, said, "Jones County is excited about being the first county in the U.S. to embrace this new technology countywide. We were fortunate to receive Federal Stimulus funds to begin implementing energy saving improvements to all county and school buildings in Jones County. These improvements will be made to nearly 30 buildings across the county. It was an easy decision to include the 'AfterGlow' product in our improvement program. The AfterGlow product is the most energy efficient solution to retrofitting existing Exit signs. As part of our Strategic Energy Plan for Jones County we plan to continue these energy improvements for existing and any new county facilities."
